Budget: US$2,394,611 (UNTFHS: $2,099,986; Pooled Funding: $294,625)
Implementing Agencies: UNESCO (lead), UNDP, WHO
Decades of conflict, recurring natural disasters and economic hardship have taken a significant toll on rural communities in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and the Khyber Pakhunkhwa region of Pakistan. Displacement rates have been surging in the region, affecting the poorest and most vulnerable groups. At the same time, in this arid region where water is a scarce commodity, conflicts between groups over access to resources are rising, further exacerbating social tensions.
The programme aims to improve the living conditions of people in conflict-affected areas through enhanced access to health, education, and livelihood opportunities and strengthened peacebuilding, reconciliation, and social cohesion. To this end, the programme’s key objectives are to: (i) improve access to education, health, and extracurricular activities through strengthened community mobilization; (ii) enhance safe and sustainable livelihood opportunities through the development of community infrastructure, trainings, and grants for business incubation; and (iii) promote a culture of peace by fostering conflict resolution, social cohesion, and reconciliation at the community level.
