The programme helps to develop the capacities of local governments and institutions to mitigate disaster-related insecurities in 10 urban communities living in vulnerable conditions in Mauritania and Tunisia. Backed with evidence from disaster resilience assessments, the programme focuses on: (i) establishing risk sensitive action plans that take into account social, environmental, political, health and economic risks as highlighted through a people-centered human security lens; and (ii) localizing disaster risk reduction efforts through innovative partnerships that place communities and their survival, livelihood and dignity – i.e., their human security – as central to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
