Drug control and development in the Wa Region of the Shan State – 2
Duration: April 2003– September 2004
Budget: US$1,203,935
Implementing Agencies: UNODC
The programme supported the ongoing poppy eradication plan in the Wa Special Region where farmers had depended on poppy cultivation for their livelihoods for more than 100 years. By offering an alternative and viable means of survival to farmers through increased rice production, the programme improved the availability of rice for self-consumption and as a source of income.
