The UN Human Security Unit (HSU) co-organized an event titled “Health, Resilience, and the Added Value of the Human Security Approach to Achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs)” in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE), co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Costa Rica, Japan and Thailand. Drawing on findings from a global report by the PAHO/WHO and JCIE, the event focused on concrete contributions of the human security approach towards health, resilience and the achievement of the SDGs, in particular those related to “ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages” (SDG3). The event brought together nearly 100 practitioners and policymakers to hear findings of the joint JCIE-PAHO report on “Health, Resilience, and Human Security” and to share experiences and lessons learned from across the globe, including efforts to integrate the human security approach in health ministries of several Latin American countries.
