In the wake of the conflict in Kosovo, many families were living in tents and temporary community shelters. With support from the UNTFHS, the Housing and Electrification (HEIK) Programme sought to restore housing and electrical distribution networks to improve the human security of rural communities.

The programme addressed post-conflict reconstruction and reintegration in the districts of Peje Skenderal, Rahovec and Mitrovice by rebuilding damaged houses, restoring electrical distribution networks, and providing employment to Kosovar Albanians and Serbs.
