The programme aimed to improve economic self-sufficiency and the quality of life in poor rural communities affected by HIV/AIDS in the Shanxi province. To reverse discriminatory practices and prevent stigmatization against HIV positive people, the programme established a community-based model for family counselling, care and support to limit the spread of HIV/AIDS.
