G20 Summit 2020
The fifteenth annual summit of leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) economies has adopted a theme of “realizing opportunities of the 21st century for all.” The summit will include a series of “engagement groups” that have been tasked with developing policy recommendations for the G20 leaders to consider. They include groups focused on youth, labour, civil society, women, science and business.
There also have been efforts in the run-up to the G20 Summit to elevate attention to challenges facing food systems. For example, a policy brief from the International Food Policy Research Institute has called for a “leadership role for the G20 in mandating measurement of the true cost of food, coordinating reform of harmful policies, and setting the agenda for the introduction of beneficial policies.”
