From Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General as posted on his official X account (previously known as Twitter)
For eighty years the UN has spared no efforts to forge peace, tackle poverty, hunger, advance human rights and strengthen a rule-based world.
Recommitting to these principles matters more than ever amid the catastrophe in Gaza, where we have seen an utter disregard for international humanitarian law, including the weaponisation of aid.
This UN Day, marking 80 years, is also a time to reflect on the humanitarian reset to address decreasing resources and spiraling needs. We need to regroup, renew and be guided by our humanitarian principles to provide the best possible response for the people we serve.
