On 5 June 2023, UNOPS and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), signed an agreement for the amount of USD 5.5 million to construct a vocational school in Yatta in the Governorate of Hebron, and procure the related equipment.
The new collaboration between KOICA and UNOPS will support the Palestinian Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Yatta towards the establishment of the Yatta Vocational School with the purpose of advancing education in the area. Within the framework of the agreement, UNOPS will undertake the design and construction of the educational facility, in addition to the procurement and installation of the required furniture and machinery for the establishment of the vocational school.
The project duration is for 45 months and seeks to contribute to Goal 4 “Quality Education” of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
The Country Director of KOICA in Palestine, Mr. Minjong Kim, expressed deep gratitude to UNOPS for their efforts in implementing this vital project. “Since 2009, KOICA has been implementing the Program of Education for youth with a budget of USD 33.6 million. We expect that this new Yatta vocational school will help fulfill the aspirations of Palestinian youth” he stated.
“We are pleased that UNOPS through KOICA will be able to build and equip a vocational school in the West Bank that will serve young Palestinian women and men and provide opportunities for better education and employment” said Ms. Sophie Nyirabakwiye, OIC/ Director at UNOPS Jerusalem Office. “UNOPS remains available to continue working with KOICA to build better lives for the Palestinians” she added.
