From Tor Wennesland, United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, as posted on his official X account (previously known as Twitter)
In Gaza today, I saw firsthand again the continued immense destruction & profound suffering of the people. Met with UN staff & Palestinian NGOs. Their tireless efforts are admirable. Heard directly from them about the alarming security & humanitarian situation across the Strip, especially in Northern Gaza.
The challenges faced by the people of Gaza, including serious violations of IHL, are enormous, with urgent needs for food, medical supplies, and protection. A significant increase in the entry of humanitarian assistance and an improvement in security is urgently required.
I reiterate the SG’s repeated call for an immediate ceasefire & the unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas. I call on all relevant parties to urgently pursue these goals. Gaza is an integral part of Palestine. Ultimately, the solution for Gaza is political.
