Dear Petitioner,
Thank you for your message of January 2022 concerning Hisham Abu Hawash.
The EU has been following closely this particular case and has raised the conditions under which Palestinians are held in administrative detention, including by highlighting that under international law, detainees have the right to be informed about the reasons underlying any detention and to have the legality of their detention determined without undue delay.
As you may have also seen, the EU has recently issued a number of public messages on this issue:
The EU welcomes the recent development on Abu Hawash’s situation, notably the suspension of his hunger strike, after reaching an agreement on his release. Mr. Abu Hawash remains under medical observation until his condition is stablished, as confirmed by his lawyer.
