Within the framework of the follow-up of the Summit and CFM resolutions, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a meeting at the level of the Permanent Representatives, on Wednesday 8 January 2020, at the General Secretariat’s headquarters in Jeddah to apprise the Member States of the substance of the strategic plan for the development of the vital sectors in Al Quds Al Sharif.
H.E. Amb. Samir Baker Diab, Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Al Quds, delivered a statement on behalf of the Secretary General, Yousef alAOthaimen, in which he iterated the OIC’s constant support for and solidarity with the Palestinian people towards the protection of their sanctuaries and the achievement of their legitimate rights including the right to establish their own independent state with Al Quds/Jerusalem as its capital. He further noted that the meeting was a manifestation of the OIC’s unfailing commitment and of the Member State’s collective responsibility in extending support for the city of Al Quds.
The Secretary General also paid tribute to the OIC for its efforts and political action vis-à-vis the Palestinian issues, and called for an early implementation of the strategic plan for the City’s development as adopted by the successive Islamic summits and foreign ministers meetings, and for the engagement of political initiatives to safeguard the City’s Arabo-Islamo-Christian identity, to protect its sanctuaries lend support to its citizens in their resilience and steadfast resistance, until the city of Al Quds regains the glory it enjoyed across the ages as a shining center of culture and civilization.
