Middle East
- The Palestinian Human Rights Organizations Council (PHROC) has issued a statement condemning the passage of Israel’s “Regularization Law” which legalizes 4000 settlement housing units and 55 settlement outposts built on private Palestinian land.
- · On 7 February, Peace Now announced that, together with Yesh Din and the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), it will petition the Israeli Supreme Court to strike down the “Regularization Law” adopted by the Israeli Knesset.
- · Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association has published a new report entitled “The Economic Exploitation of Palestinian Prisoners” which addresses the economic aspects of the imprisonment of over 800,000 Palestinians since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza began in 1967.· The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, Al-Mezan Centre for Human Rights, Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, and the Prisoners’ Affairs Commission have published a joint monthly report which indicates, inter alia, that Israeli authorities arrested 590 Palestinians in January 2017, including 128 children and 14 women.
- · Six Palestinian civil society organizations (Community Action Centre – Al-Quds University, Jerusalem Legal Aid and Human Rights Centre (JLAC), the Society of St.Yves, Al-Haq, BADIL and al-Shabaka) in collaboration with Visualizing Palestine have created a series of visuals on the situation in occupied East Jerusalem, the first of which is entitled “Living under policies of colonization in Jerusalem”.
North America
- · On 23 February the Middle East Children’s Alliance will host the US premiere of Jerusalem, We Are Here – an interactive documentary that digitally brings Palestinians back into Jerusalem neighbourhoods from which they were expelled in 1948. The screening will take place in the Berkeley City College Auditorium in California and it is co-sponsored by the Arab Film Festival and Jewish Voice for Peace/Bay Area.
