Air violations of the Blue Line Continue –

PRSG reiterates call for halt to overflights

Beirut, 24 October 2001 (UN Information Centre) – On 22 October 9 air violations, involving 10 Israeli aircraft and one drone, and on 23 October a further 5 air violations, involving 14 Israeli aircraft took place across the Blue Line and into Lebanese airspace- The latter included a violation in which a total of seven aircraft were involved.

Sonic booms were also heard in southern Lebanon on 23 October.

The PRSG, calls Mr. Staffan de Mistura, reiterates that such actions are unhelpful in avoiding the deterioration of an already tense situation.

The PRSG calls once again upon all concerned parties to refrain from further violations and to fully respect the Blue Line.
