Personal Representative of the Secretary-General for Southern Lebanon
Calls for Halt to Air Violations
Beirut, 15 October 2001 (UN Information Centre) – As indicated previously, the United Nations has on various occasions, including in recent reports to the Security Council, drawn attention to air violations across the Blue Line by Israeli military aircraft.
In this connection, the Personal Representative of the Secretary-General for southern Lebanon (PRSG) has noted with concern that 6 Israeli air violations, consisting of a total of 9 aircraft, took- place across the Blue Line on 14 October.
Such repetitive violations of the Blue Line and Lebanese airspace potentially aggravate an already tense situation.
The PRSG once again reiterates his call upon the Israel authorities to cease these violations and fully respect the Blue Line.
