The CHAIRMAN thanked the delegations of the Arab States for keeping the appointment and attending the meeting which would only be a brief one since all members of the Arab delegations were not yet present and since the Commission itself was not complete. He informed the delegations that the United States Government had appointed Mr. Paul Porter to be its representative on the Commission. Mr. Porter would be arriving in Lausanne in a few days and it was therefore preferable to postpone plenary meetings of the Commission until his arrival. In the meantime, Mr. Rockwell would act as his alternate.
The General Committee and the Committee on Jerusalem would continue to meet however, and Mr. Yalcin and he himself would make personal contacts with the Arab delegations.
He informed the delegations that certain reports from the Technical Committee had been received and would be studied by the Commission and the General Committee.
Speaking in his capacity as representative of France, he said that his Government had expressed the wish that the Commission would be able to develop its activities further by all the methods at its disposal in order to achieve its task of restoring peace to the Middle East.
If any of the representatives of the Arab States had any information they wished to give the Commission after their consultations with their respective Governments, the Commission was of course ready to receive any statement from them.
H.E. FOUAD BEY AIMMOUN (Lebanon) assured the Commission that the delegations of the Arab States had returned to Lausanne in the same spirit of collaboration as that which they had consistently shown during the previous two months, and he expressed the hope that the second phase of the Commission’s work would reach a successful conclusion.
He agreed with the Chairman that it would be preferable to postpone more detailed discussion until the Commission’s following meeting when all members of the delegations and the Commission would be present.
