The Honorable Ralph J. Bunche
Principal Secretary'
Palestine Commission
United Nations
Lake Success, N.Y.
Dear Sir:
In reference to your letter of March 25th, I must express my astonishment at the decision of the Commission with respect to our request for an oral hearing in the case of the Palestine prisoners in British Africa. We cannot understand why the Commission, having no knowledge of the issues we intended to bring to its attention, concluded that no oral hearing on this matter is necessary.
The human and political problems involved in the case have such far-reaching implications that they deserve the fullest discussion and consideration. Nor can they suffer any delay which presentation by correspondence will necessarily involve. In a meeting with the Commission, questions which may be raised by the Commission members could be answered on the spot.
We therefore respectfully ask that the Commission reconsider its decision on this matter and grant us the requested hearing at its earliest possible convenience.
Sincerely yours,
(signed) H. Levi
