Arab Refugee Congress’ demand to reconsider the issue of refugees – UNCCP – Letter

UNITED NATIONS CONCILIATION COMMISSION FOR PALESTINE

Letter dated 3 June 1949 addressed to the Principal Secretary

of the Conciliation Commission by Mr. Nassib Bulos,

Delegation Secretary, Arab Refugee Congress.

Sir,

1. I should like to refer to our memoranda dated 10th May, 1949, (Document ORG 12) and 13th May, 1949 (Document ORG 13) respectively and to inquire (a) as to the steps which may have been taken towards the implementation of the General Assembly’s resolution of December 11th, 1948 and (b) as to the steps taken regarding the specific questions raised in the memoranda referred to above.

2. I should like to point out that my Delegation has so far not received any communication from the Commission on any development affecting the refugee question. We should be most grateful for the benefit of a progress report giving the Jewish stand on the refugee question in general and in particular the Jewish attitude over the specific questions raised by my Delegation.

3. I understand that the technical Refugee Sub-Committee, which it has been decided to appoint, will make a tour, when it has been constituted, of refugee camps in the Middle East. My Delegation is anxious to learn whether this Sub-Committee has in fact been constituted, and whether in fact a tour of refugee camps is envisaged. My Delegation is also anxious to meet with this Sub-Committee prior to its departure for the Middle East. We should be grateful if such a meeting can be arranged,

I have the honour to be, Sir,
Yours faithfully,
(S) Nassib Bulos
Secretary,
Delegation,
Arab Refugee Congress
