Spain regrets Israel's announcemnt of new settlements and legalisation of illegal settlements

Spain regrets the decision announced by the Israeli authorities to build hundreds of houses in the areas of Givat Ze’ev and Maale Adumim on the West Bank, and its intention to legalise the properties that were declared illegal under Israeli law in Beit Arie, Psagot and Givon Hahadasha also on the West Bank.

The government reiterates that this type of decision at a time of heightened regional tension seriously endangers and creates barriers to the resumption of talks between the parties that are trying to promote a peaceful, global and permanent solution on the basis of two States: Israel and Palestine.

Spain re-states its well-documented position, shared by the European Union and the international community as a whole, on the illegality of all settlements.
