Arab States Sec Gen on Israeli separation wall – LAS press release/Non-UN document

Moussa: "Israeli Wall, Wicked Tactic to Alter Facts"

Secretary General Amre Moussa of the Arab League stressed that the Israeli Wall "is considered as an un-preceded wicked tactic that aimed at the alteration of concrete facts and legal rights to create further doubts". He also referred to it as "a move that has gulped down more than 40% of the West Bank territories".

In a press release he made at the commencement of the International Court of Justice sessions today, Moussa said: "the consequences of the Wall are numerous and of negative nature". He further stressed: "the Wall defies the international law and accentuates the suffering of the Palestinian people in a manner that endangers the future of any settlement of the Palestinian cause. Therefore, it is the International Court of Justice – alone – that must make us aware of the legal consequences of building that Wall".  In his press release, Moussa expressed "hope that the findings of the Court's sessions would provide a means by which to deal with such painful situation".

Moussa also pointed out that building the wall inside the Palestinian occupied territories led to discrimination and reflected the worse practices of expansion in manner that threatened to devastate sincere hopes of achieving fair and lasting peace.

Finally, Moussa queried: "would the current situation bring to memory the story of Berlin Wall which was branded as the Wall of Disgrace?"
