Spain issues communiqué regretting new settlement construction in East Jerusalem – Spanish MoFAC press release/Non-UN document

186-2012. SPAIN REGRETS THE ANNOUNCEMENT TO CONSTRUCT NEW SETTLEMENTS IN EAST JERUSALEM

Madrid, 20 December 2012

Spain regrets the recently announced decision of the Israeli authorities to authorise the building of new homes in East Jerusalem, which is in addition to similar decisions made by the Government of Israel in recent weeks.

Spain urges Israel to reconsider a decision that, if implemented, would compromise the viability of a future Palestinian state.

The Government of Spain reiterates its belief that resuming bilateral negotiations without delay is the only road to achieving a just and definitive solution, which involves the establishment of a Palestinian State living in peace and security with Israel and with Jerusalem as the shared capital.
