EUPOL COPPS supplies specialized equipment to fight Arson crimes

Ramallah, 05th Feb. 2013 – EUPOL COPPS handed over specialized equipment to the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) in the West Bank city of Ramallah to enhance their capabilities in conducting Arson investigations.

The kits, which contain hundred of necessary items for the Criminal Police Department (CID) of the PCP, such as protective clothes, safety masks and evidence bags among others, will be distributed to 11 West Bank districts. This equipment is essential for the investigators to keep the pertinent evidence uncontaminated and to collect samples from Arson crime scene.

The equipment, which has been handed over to Colonel Ibrahim Abu Ain, Head of the CID, is part of a project funded by EUPOL COPPS. These efforts are part of a comprehensive approach by European Police advisors’ to strengthen capacity and new capabilities within the PCP.

Last October, EUPOL COPPS has been supporting the Criminal Investigation Department of the PCP in an Arson and fire investigation course at the Palestinian College for Police Sciences (PCPS) in Jericho. It was the first time that a training course was held jointly with the PCP and the Palestinian Civil Defence.
