Turkey donates flour for poor refugees in Gaza

Amman
UNRWA has received a consignment of more than 6,000 tons of flour from the Republic of Turkey for refugees in Gaza. Distribution of the flour is currently underway and will help feed thousands of poor refugees in the Gaza Strip. This generous in-kind donation from Turkey comes at a critical time for UNRWA as the Agency is currently facing a worrying shortfall in funding for its essential food aid distribution to needy beneficiaries.
UNRWA distributes essential food commodities and cash subsidies to poor families in its five fields of operation in order to help alleviate poverty and hunger. Distribution of the Turkish contribution is expected to be completed over the coming month.
The Turkish government has been a steady supporter of UNRWA’s development and humanitarian work. Since 2000 Turkey has contributed almost US$ 9,000,000 to UNRWA programmes and projects. Moreover, UNRWA works in partnership with Turkish Red Crescent and a number of Turkish NGOs for the benefit of Palestine refugees.
