SECRETARY-GENERAL CONDEMNS ATTACK ON UN RECREATIONAL FACILITY IN GAZA
The following statement was issued on 1 January by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General condemns last night’s attack on a United Nations recreational facility in Gaza by an unidentified group, who beat a local United Nations guard and detonated explosives which seriously damaged the premises. He calls on the Palestinian Authority to take all possible steps to bring the perpetrators to justice, prevent such attacks from recurring, and ensure law and order.
