on Palestinian teacher winning global award
EAST JERUSALEM, 15 March 2016 -"I join many others today in conveying warm and sincere congratulations to Hanan Al-Hroub for being awarded with the prestigious Global Teacher Prize.
"It is a welcome affirmation of the difference teachers can make and the value and importance of the teaching profession. Ms. Al-Hroub's enduring commitment to Palestinian children's education and non-violence in school is an inspiration to us all.
"Despite the tense environment she lives in, Al-Hroub embraced the ideal and practice of non-violence, and promoted an approach that focuses on active learning through playing and rewarding positive behaviour".
"Al Hroub adopted this approach after her own children suffered psychological distress following a shooting they witnessed on their way home from school."
