Cowen condemns suicide bombing in Israel
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Cowen, as Presidency of the Council of the European Union, condemned today's two suicide bombings at Ashdod in Israel which left at least eleven people dead. The Minister extended his condolences to the families of the dead and his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.
"Atrocities of this nature cannot be justified by any cause" said Minister Cowen. "The organisations responsible for this outrage must realise that terrorism is not an option. They should end their campaign and enter into an unconditional ceasefire without delay."
The Minister also expressed disappointment at the reported postponement of the meeting between the Israeli and Palestinian Prime Ministers in the wake of the bombings. He urged the two leaders to meet as soon as possible in order to advance the process of negotiation.
