UN Convoy Attacked in North Gaza
Jerusalem – Today at 3pm a United Nations convoy departing Erez crossing for Gaza City was attacked and fired upon by masked men.
All three cars were clearly marked as UN vehicles.
The attack occurred approximately one kilometer south of Erez crossing. A vehicle blocked the UN convoy. Three armed men jumped out and attempted to open the doors of the
middle car in the convoy.
When it became clear that the vehicle doors were locked, they opened fire directly on the car, resulting in 11 bullet holes in the vehicle’s side.
Director of UNRWA’s Field Office Gaza, John Ging, and the others in the convoy escaped injury and were able to travel safely to UNRWA’s Gaza Headquarters, Gaza City.
UNRWA’s Commissioner-General, Karen Koning AbuZayd, condemned in the strongest possible terms “this unprecedented attack on UN staff in Gaza” and urged that those responsible be identified forthwith and brought to justice.
