Har Homa settlement – EU Presidency statement/Non-UN document

Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on the Har Homa settlements

Date:   2007-12-10

The EU notes with concern that the Israeli Government has authorized the construction of 307 dwellings in the Har Homa settlement in east Jerusalem.

The EU considers that this initiative might undermine ongoing efforts in the search for peace and confidence building between the Parties, especially at this point in time.

The EU urges Israel to honour the commitments under the Road Map and to avoid activities that could prejudge a final status agreement on Jerusalem or undermine progress towards this goal.

The Candidate Countries Turkey, Croatia* and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and the EFTA country Norway, member of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine and Armenia align themselves with this declaration.

* Croatia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
