EU Presidency Statement on the Paris Donor's Conference
|
The EU Presidency welcomes the positive outcome of the Paris Donor's Conference and the generous support pledged by the international community, which fully met the objectives initially set out.
The Conference confirmed the unequivocal political support and commitment of international partners, including the Arab countries, to actively foster the economic and financial development of the future Palestinian State, in line with the priorities defined in the Palestinian Reform and Development Plan presented by Prime Minister Fayyad.
The EU Presidency commends this Plan, which represents an ambitious yet achievable programme towards economic and institutional capacity building.
The EU reiterates it stands ready to maintain its high levels of economic and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians, namely in Gaza. It also stresses that for this assistance to be effective in promoting economic development it must go hand in hand with a credible political process.
Progress in the ongoing bilateral negotiations, enhanced cooperation on the ground and building Palestinian institutions should be concurrent and mutually reinforcing, leading ultimately to improvements in the day to day life of Palestinians and to lay the foundation of a viable and prosperous Palestinian state.
The EU Presidency calls on both parties and on the international community to join efforts in order to attain a comprehensive solution through a lasting and just settlement of the conflict in all its tracks based on the principles of land for peace, the relevant UNSC resolutions, the Road Map, and previous agreements reached between the parties as well as the Arab Peace Initiative which is a major element in moving the Middle East Peace Process forward.
