In response to a question raised earlier on a response by the High Commissioner's Office on the assassination attempt of a Hamas leader in Jordan, Mr. Mills read out the following statement attributable to the spokesman of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights:
"The assassination attempt in Amman, Jordan on September 25 was an unacceptable violation of fundamental human rights principles including the right to life. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights condemns this and all other acts which undermine the peace process and only exacerbate and extend the suffering of both the Palestinian and Israeli people."
