UNRWA sponsors dental hygiene festival in the Hebron District – UNRWA press release

A Better Smile For All

West Bank — UNRWA’s health department organised a festival on oral hygiene today held in the Halhoul School for Girls in the Hebron district. As part of the event students treated the audience to musical performances and sketches on the topic to raise awareness of the importance of having a healthy body and a beautiful smile.

“This festival focuses on the importance of maintaining correct oral hygiene practices and encourages children to smile with confidence,” explained Omayya Khamash, the head of UNRWA’s health programme in the West Bank, in a TV interview earlier today.

The activity is part of a wider campaign to work with the local community. UNRWA’s chiefs of education, health and relief attended, along with the Halhoul mayor, and other public officials and community members.

The activity was implemented in Al Halhoul with the support of the Dental Association and the Hydrology Group. The campaign is raising awareness about dental hygiene among school children, members of community-based organisations and community centres. The campaign included field visits to the various areas, health education through lectures, and distribution of toothpaste and toothbrushes for free.

The activity is part of UNRWA’s health programme, which contributes towards ensuring quality health services. The programme also contributes towards protecting and enhancing family health for almost 689,000 registered refugees in the West Bank through 137 primary health care clinics.
