Saudi Arabia donates ten tonnes of dates to Palestine refugees in Lebanon
20 July 2012, Beirut — In preparation for the upcoming month of Ramadan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has donated ten tonnes of dates to UNRWA for distribution to Palestine refugees living in Lebanon.
The food was officially handed over at the Saudi embassy in Beirut in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Ali Awad Osseiri, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Lebanon, His Excellency Mr. Ashraf Dabbour, Ambassador of Palestine to Lebanon, and Mr. Robert Hurt, the acting director of UNRWA affairs in Lebanon.
Saudi Arabia is a longstanding supporter of Palestine refugees in Lebanon, having pledged USD 35 million for the reconstruction of Nahr el-Bared camp in the north of the country. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was UNRWA's third-largest donor in 2011.
