Egypt rejects Israel's decision to consider Gaza a "hostile entity"

The Foreign Ministry's Official Spokesman stated that Foreign Minister, Ahmed Abul-Gheit, sent a message to his Israeli counterpart, Tzipi Livni, concerning the Israeli decision to consider Gaza a "hostile entity", and the consequences this decision might have.

The Spokesman stated that Abul-Gheit expressed, in his message, Egypt's refusal of the decision, and expressed concern over the consequences it will necessarily entail including imposing collective punishment against innocent civilians in the Strip. The Spokesman added that Abul-Gheit asked Livni to reconsider this decision – especially in view of the current talks on settlement and achieving peace – since this decision will have very negative repercussions on the conditions of the Palestinians in Gaza, without necessarily achieving its aims.
