OIC Secretary General welcomes withdrawal of Costa Rica and El Salvador embassies from Jerusalem – OIC Press release/Non UN document

Press Release

OIC Secretary General,

Welcomes the withdrawal of the embassies of Costa Rica and El Salvador from Jerusalem (Al-Quds)

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, welcomed the decision of Costa Rica and El Salvador to withdraw their embassies from Jerusalem in conformity with the international legitimacy resolutions that do not recognize Jerusalem (Al-Quds) as Israel's capital, especially the Security Council resolution 478 of 1980 which requests all states to withdraw their embassies from the Holy City.

On this occasion, Prof. Ihsanoglu reiterated OIC's rejection of the Israeli de facto policy and called on all states neither to recognize nor to deal with the outcome of such policy which leads only to jeopardizing peace chances and indeed fueling confrontation in the Middle East. Prof. Ihsanoglu, moreover, emphasized that peace can not be achieved without Israel's withdrawal from all Palestinian and Arab territories occupied in 1967 including East Jerusalem and the establishment of the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
