EU High Representative for CFSP distressed at the escalation of violence in Gaza Strip – EU press release/Non-UN document

Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the CFSP, distressed at the escalation of violence in Gaza strip

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), made today the following comments following the Israeli raids into the al-Bureij and Nusseirat refugee camps in the Gaza strip, on Sunday (7 March, 2004):

"I was distressed at the news that the raids carried out yesterday morning by the Israeli army in theGaza strip resulted in a number of killings, including of innocent children, as well as in many people wounded. I am concerned that too often strikes directed against radical Palestinian elements end up fuelling more pain hate and frustration among ordinary Palestinians.

It is important to bring to an end this spiral of violence, to allow dialogue to resume. Both sides have the responsibility to make this happen."
