Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos and EU Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva to raise key humanitarian issues in the West Bank and Gaza

WHAT: Mission to occupied Palestinian territory and Israel

Valerie Amos, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, is setting out on a four-day trip to the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) and Israel today, with EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgieva.
During their joint mission to the occupied Palestinian territory and Israel, USG Amos and Commissioner Georgieva will reiterate the commitment of the United Nations and the European Union to assist the most vulnerable Palestinians in their daily challenges, and the importance of respecting international humanitarian law by all parties.
During her visit, the Under-Secretary-General will meet representatives of the most vulnerable people, particularly those living in the West Bank's Area C, in East Jerusalem, in Gaza and in Sderot. She is also scheduled to hold meetings with Palestinian Prime Minister Fayad, high-level Israeli officials, as well as with humanitarian organizations and international partners on the ground.
USG Amos will be available for one-to-one interviews and is scheduled to give press conferences during her mission.
The mission of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is to mobilize and coordinate effective
and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors.
