1338-02-07-2015

On July 1, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Foreign Affairs Minister of the Palestinian National Authority Riyad al-Maliki, who is in Moscow to attend a UN-sponsored international seminar on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement.

During a discussion of Russian-Palestinian relations, the officials reaffirmed mutual interest in further strengthening the political dialogue and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. They emphasised the importance of the early launch of the Russian-Palestinian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, following an agreement to that effect signed in April as part of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s visit to Russia.

The ministers spoke in detail about the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, with a focus on the need to search for ways of restarting the negotiation process and on restoring inter-Palestinian unity. Mr Lavrov reiterated Russia’s commitment to actively working towards the establishment of a durable and just peace based on the two-state solution with the involvement of the Middle East Quartet in close coordination with the Arab League.
