Execution of three Palestinian citizens in the Gaza Strip — Statement of the FDFA

Switzerland condemns the execution of three Palestinian citizens in the Gaza Strip on 17 July 2012

18.07.2012 — These executions bring the number of prisoners executed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the year to six. Switzerland calls for a moratorium on capital punishment to be put in place, along with the immediate suspension of any further executions throughout the entire area of occupied Palestinian territory  

Switzerland reaffirms its firm opposition to the imposition of the death penalty in any and all circumstances. The death penalty constitutes a violation of the most fundamental of human rights. For this reason, throughout the world, Switzerland is committed to the abolishment of the death penalty.
