The Dead Sea region has been the cradle of many civilizations. Its survival is now threatened as the water level falls, raising the prospect of severe environmental degradation. Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Authority as the beneficiary parties have agreed to cooperate to address this pressing issue. With the assistance of the World Bank, terms of reference have been agreed for a feasibility study to investigate the impacts of water conveyance from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea. 1) What are the opportunities for cooperating in search of a shared environmental vision of the Dead Sea? 2) What is the status of the agreement on a feasibility study and an environmental and social assessment of the water conveyance? 3) What are the next steps, and what opportunities exist for the international community and the private sector to engage in this process?
