Letter dated 16 November 1988 from the Permanent Representative of

Bahrain to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General

I have the honour to transmit herewith an official statement issued on 15 November 1988 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Bahrain welcoming the proclamation of the Independent Palestinian State and extending full diplomatic recognition to the newly declared State.

I should be grateful if you would have the present letter and its annex circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under agenda items 37 and 40, and of the Security Council.

ANNEX

Text of the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

of the State of Bahrain on 15 November 1988

The State of Bahrain welcomes the decision of the Palestine National Council to proclaim the independent Palestinian State on its national soil, endorses this measure and announces its full recognition of the independent Palestinian State.

Bahrain salutes this historic event, which gives practical effect to the struggling Palestinian people's determination to continue its fight for the restoration of its legitimate rights.
