QUESTION OF PALESTINE
RIGHT OF PEOPLES TO SELF-DETERMINATION
REPORT OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON THE CHARTER OF THE UNITED NATIONS
AND ON THE STRENGTHENING OF THE ROLE OF THE ORGANIZATION
Letter dated 19 June 1997 from the Chargé d'affaires a.i.
of the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations
addressed to the Secretary-General
I refer to the letter dated 12 June 1997 (A/51/923) addressed to you by the Palestinian Permanent Observer.
This letter refers to my letter to you dated 5 June 1997 (A/52/173) in which I expressed Israel's grave concern over the recent series of murders of Palestinians involved in land transactions. Such wanton murder is by any standard totally unjustifiable. It is with great regret, therefore, that I note the fact that the Palestinian Permanent Observer is not able or willing to condemn this deplorable phenomenon, and would appear in his letter rather to justify it.
I should be grateful if you would have the present letter circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under items 36, 113 and 154 of the preliminary list.
(Signed) Ambassador David PELEG
Chargé d'affaires a.i.
