Letter dated 2 July 2001 from the Permanent Representative of Lebanon
to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General
On instructions from my Government, I have the honour to inform you of the following:
On the afternoon of Sunday, 1 July 2001, Israeli warplanes violated Lebanese airspace and attacked a radar position belonging to the Syrian Arab forces operating in Lebanon in the Duhur al-Ayrun locality of the Bekaa. Two members of the Syrian forces were wounded, as was an enlisted man in the Lebanese Army.
This new attack provides further confirmation of Israel’s belligerent character and highlights its violations of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
I should be grateful if you would have this letter circulated as a document of the General Assembly under agenda item 40.
