Mideast situation/Lebanon – Letter from Iran

GENERAL ASSEMBLY SECURITY COUNCIL

Fifty-second session Fifty-second year

MEASURES TO ELIMINATE

  INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM

Letter dated 10 January 1997 from the Permanent Representative of

the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations addressed to

the Secretary-General

Upon instructions from my Government and with reference to the letter dated 2 January 1997 (A/51/769-S/1997/6), I would like to state the following:

The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects the Israeli allegations against it in the above-mentioned letter.  My Government underlines the fact that its assistance to the Lebanese people, who are resisting the long-standing Israeli occupation, is of a humanitarian and moral nature.

It is the usual practice of the Israeli regime to resort to a distortion of facts in order to justify the continuation of its illegal occupation of southern Lebanon and the other occupied territories.

It would be highly appreciated if the present letter were circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under the item entitled "Measures to eliminate international terrorism", and of the Security Council.

(Signed)  Kamal KHARRAZI

Ambassador

Permanent Representative
