Human rights situation in the OT – CHR – Letter from Palestine

QUESTION OF THE VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE OCCUPIED

ARAB TERRITORIES, INCLUDING PALESTINE

Letter dated 31 March 2000 from the Permanent Observer for Palestine to the United Nations Office at Geneva addressed to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and to the Chairman of the Commission on Human Rights

Yesterday, 30 March 2000, the Israeli military occupation forces fired at masses of the Palestinian population, wounding 30 Palestinians, some of them seriously.  Thus, the Israeli occupation forces have committed a new crime against the Palestinian people to be added to those that have been the subject of our multiple previous letters to the Commission.

The incident took place while the Palestinian civilian populations were commemorating “Land Day”, hoisting banners protesting against the confiscation of Palestinian lands and the establishment of Jewish Israeli settlements thereon.

I would be grateful to you if you could have the text of this letter distributed, as soon as possible, to the distinguished members of the fifty-sixth session of the Commission on Human Rights, as an official document under agenda item 8.

(Signed) Nabil RAMLAWI
