Israeli settlement activities – Letter from Jordan

Letter dated 5 August 1983 from the Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the
Permanent Mission of Jordan to the United Nations addressed to
the Secretary-General
I am sending you the latest information concerning Israeli settlement activity in the occupied Arab territories during May and June 1983. This activity, which contravenes the principles of international law relating to military occupation and, in particular, The Hague Conventions of 1907 and the fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, consists of the confiscation of Arab land for the establishment of new settlements.

I need not stress the dangers of the continuation of such a policy for peace and security and for the prospects for peace in the region.

I should be grateful if you would have this letter and its annex circulated as an official document of the General assembly, under item 69 of the provisional agenda, and of the Security Council.
(Signed) Farouk A. KASRAWI
Chargé d'Affaires a.i.
