Mideast situation – Letter from Israel

Letter dated l4 July 1975 from the Acting Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General

On instructions of my Government and further to previous letters from this Mission addressed to you with regard to the continuation of criminal attacks by PLO terror gangs from Lebanon against Israel, I should like to draw your attention to the following.

On 13 July 1975, at about 2030 hours local time, Katyusha fire was directed by PLO terrorists from positions in Lebanon against the town of Nahariya and the Rosh Hanikra area. In Nahariya two women were wounded when their residence was hit.

On the same day, at approximately the same time, a shell was fired from PLO positions in Lebanon at Kibbutz Malkia. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

As stated repeatedly on previous occasions, the Government of Lebanon bears a heavy responsibility for the situation that enables such PLO attacks to be carried out from Lebanese territory. Israel is obliged under these circumstances to take all the necessary measures for its self-defence.

I have the honour to request that this letter be circulated as an official document of the General Assembly and of the Security Council.

(Signed) Jacob DORON

Acting Permanent Representative

of Israel to the United Nations
