The Security Council continued its consideration of the item at its 2572nd and 2573rd meetings, held on 11 and 12 March 1985. In addition to the representatives previously invited, the President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representatives of Cyprus, Czechoslovakia, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Senegal and the Sudan, at their request, to participate in the discussion without the right to vote. The President drew attention to the request contained in the letter dated 7 March 1985 from the Chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Permanent Mission of Democratic Yemen (S/17011) that the representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization be invited to participate in the debate. He said that the proposal was not formulated under rule 37 or rule 39 of the Security Council’s provisional rules of procedure but that, if it was adopted by the Council, the invitation would confer on the Palestine Liberation Organization the same rights of participation as were conferred on Member States invited pursuant to rule 37.
