Human rights situation of the Lebanese detainees in Israel

Note by the Secretary-General**

1. At its substantive session of 2001, the Economic and Social Council took note of the report of the Commission on Human Rights 1/ containing the Commission’s resolution 2001/10 of 18 April 2001 on the human rights situation of the Lebanese detainees in Israel. In paragraph 5 of resolution 2001/10, the Commission requested the Secretary-General to bring the resolution to the attention of the Government of Israel and to call upon it to comply with its provisions, and to report to the Assembly at its fifty-sixth session on the results of his efforts in that regard.

2. In view of the requests formulated in paragraph 5 of the resolution, the Secretary-General addressed a note verbale to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Israel on 31 May 2001.

3. No reply had been received at the time of the preparation of the present report.
