Letter dated 13 April 2006 from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council
I have the honour to refer to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Ukraine, whose troops have served in UNIFIL since July 2000, will withdraw its engineering and demining unit.
The Government of China has offered to replace the departing Ukrainian contingent. The addition of the Chinese contingent will not increase the overall troop strength. Having completed the usual consultations, it is my intention to add China to the list of countries that have agreed to provide military personnel to UNIFIL.
I should be grateful if you would bring this matter to the attention of the members of the Security Council.
(Signed) Kofi A. Annan
