Annex to the letter dated 24 September 2007 from the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General
Statement by the Organization of the Islamic Conference Group on the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem
21 September 2007
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Group at the United Nations condemned in the strongest terms the decision of Israel’s Security Cabinet on 19 September 2007 declaring the occupied Gaza Strip an “enemy entity” and its intention to cut off power and fuel supplies to the already isolated and imprisoned Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip.
The OIC Group stressed that this cruel decision by Israel is a blatant violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, and amounts to the collective punishment of the entire Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip and would further exacerbate the already dire humanitarian crisis that prevails in Gaza.
The OIC Group called upon the international community to compel Israel, the occupying Power, to halt all of its violations and grave breaches of international law and to scrupulously abide by its legal obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention, which is applicable to all of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. In this connection, it must be emphasized that the Gaza Strip is part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
